MICHAEL DALY, YOU ASK?
HE HAD A FIELD WITH THE CLEARYS ON THE BORO ROAD
Dear Phil,
I have been reading your website about your ancestors and the people
of the Galtees in Co. Limerick with great interest, as my Great
Grandmother, Catherine Daly, came from this Mitchelstown Area of
Co. Limerick.
She was born about 1831. She migrated alone, as a single lady,
aged 23, and arrived in Hobart on Christmas Day 1854, on the ship
"William Hammond".
One of her Granddaughter's who had childhood memories of her, claimed
Catherine had followed her brother to Hobart, but couldn't remember
her brother's name.
After much researching, I found a Michael Daly aged 44,
who had arrived in Hobart on the Ship "Kingston" on the
26 August 1854, from Co. Limerick with his wife Mary (Kierly) aged
40, and with their children: Ellen aged 19, Denis aged 16, Catherine
aged 15, Alice aged 14, Margaret aged 7, Michael aged 4, and Roger
aged 2.
Michael & Mary had five more children, born in Hobart and on
researching their Marriages and Baptisms in Hobart I found my Great
Grandmother Catherine and her children, frequently featured as sponsors
to Michael's children and vice versa.
Alice Daly was Catherine's bridesmaid when she married James Cooper
in 1860. Therefore I was fairly certain that Michael Daly is my
Great Grand Uncle.
I then enlisted the help of the "Tipperary Family History Research",
which has all the genealogical data for the Archdiocese of Cashel
and Emily. This Archdiocese covers the eastern half of Co.Limerick
and the western half of Co.Tipperary.
Since Michael Daly's several children provided more links than
great grandmother Catherine Daly's lone baptism, I requested a search
for his baptism, his marriage, his sibling's baptisms and his children's
baptisms. The available records for the different parishes cover
different periods of time.
Galbally Parish records cover the period 1809 to 1899; Ballylanders
Parish records cover the period from 1842 to 1899 and Kilbehenny
records cover the period from 1824 to 1899.
The information I received may be of interest, to yourself or others
with ancestors in the area:

Limerick, so I guess her parents Michael DALY & Catherine LEWIS
must have moved to Ballylanders Parish, where the first baptisms
were recorded in 1842, about 9 years after my Great Grandmother's
birth Catherine's birth.
MICHAEL Daly (born 4/1/1810) married Mary KIELY about 1834
probably in Ballylanders Parish, because no marriage record was
found in Galbally or Kilbehenny Parishes.
However, baptisms for some of their Limerick born children were
found in Kilbehenny Parish.
